Questions and answers

Everything parents ask us before a scan: booking, changes, the day itself and safety.

Booking and paying

How do I book?

Find your nearest clinic, choose a scan, pick a date and time, add your details and pay. It takes about two minutes and you get a confirmation e-mail and text straight away.

Do I pay when I book?

Yes. You pay the full price online when you book, through Stripe, so the appointment is held for you. We never see or store your card number.

Can I pay in the clinic?

Your scan is paid online. Extras you add on the day, such as more prints or a heartbeat bear, can be paid on our card reader in the clinic.

Are prices the same at every clinic?

Yes. Every babyscan.clinic charges the same price for the same scan, wherever you book.

Changing or cancelling

Can I change my appointment?

Yes, free of charge, up to 24 hours before. Use the link in your confirmation e-mail or text to pick a new date and time.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel more than 48 hours before your appointment and you get a full refund. Inside 48 hours we cannot refund, but you can still move the appointment free of charge up to 24 hours before.

What if the clinic has to move my appointment?

We contact you straight away by text and e-mail and offer the nearest free time. If none suits you, you get a full refund: when the clinic cancels, for any reason, you always get a full refund.

At your scan

Who performs the scan?

A qualified sonographer, trained in pregnancy ultrasound. They explain what they are looking at as they go and answer your questions.

How many people can come with me?

Up to 4 guests, including children. Children are welcome as long as an adult looks after them.

What should I bring?

Your due date and your maternity notes if you have them. For an early pregnancy scan, come with a comfortably full bladder. Each scan page lists anything else.

How long will I be there?

Between 10 and 30 minutes in the scan room, depending on the scan. A 4D Bonding Scan is about 30 minutes in the room, so allow 45 minutes in total. Please arrive 10 minutes early.

When do I get my images?

Prints are handed to you in the room and digital images are sent to your phone before you leave.

Safety and your NHS care

Is ultrasound safe for my baby?

Ultrasound has been used in pregnancy for decades and is considered safe when used by trained professionals. We keep each scan as short as it needs to be.

Does a private scan replace my NHS scans?

No. Please keep every NHS appointment. Our scans are extra, for reassurance and bonding, and do not include NHS screening tests.

What if the sonographer sees something concerning?

They tell you calmly and clearly, write it in your report and, if it needs attention, refer you to your maternity unit the same day.
